Poor Little Guy

My 3-yr-old is sick. I hate it when he gets sick.

It started yesterday when I picked him up from school. When I arrived he was kind of sleepy and lethargic. He stood up from his chair and started crying. Daddy does not like for his little man to cry… makes me cry. So he’s standing there crying and Daddy bends down to give him a hug. (Not sure if you know this, New England Journal of Medicine confirms: Hugs make it all better.) And that’s when it all went wrong.

I’m not sure exactly how many times he threw up. I was busy performing my best Spider-Man impression in a contorted effort to clear the blast radius. (There are a LOT of yuckies this daddy handles and handles well. Puke is not one of them.)

So he’s standing there in tears and I’m prancing about like Brittney Spears off her meds when I suddenly remember that it’s not 1592 and if I get sick on my clothes I can just wash them. So I kneel down (In vomit. Yes, I am the best father in the world. Thanks for noticing.) and scoop up the little sickly for to give him all-better hugs.
He spiked a temp (that’s hospital talk, Dr. Carter) in the night but a little children’s Tylenol brought him around. It’s a great thing Mommy is off today and can take care of the little prince. Here’s praying for a quick recovery. Nobody likes to see little kids sick, no matter how precious it can be.
(Related note: Anyone know how to get vomit off of a leather shoe?)

Back to the grind

I’m back at work this morning, which feels odd after a two week holiday break. But it was time. Cabin fever had begun to set in and it was either go back to work or keep cleaning the house. Work it is.

I’m also a week away from my first semester of Master’s courses. I’m enrolled in two classes, both with a coworker, which should really help the transition back to the classroom.

Christmas was absolutely wonderful. Liam, now three, was truly able to appreciate the holiday experience for the first time. We talked about the baby Jesus and took him to a live nativity. We read Christmas stories and sang carols. And Christmas Eve he went to bed easily, eager for the morning to see what all Santa had delivered.

It was also very nice having Christmas at our house for the first time. Until now we’ve gone off to my wife’s parents’ house for the holidays and we were grateful to them to allow Liam to experience Christmas morning at his own home.

2009 is starting off wonderfully and looks to be a banner year for the Perry household. We’ll have more news from the homefront in the coming weeks and months, but so far the new year is very, very bright.

So back to work it is. I’ll have more soon. TTFN.

Sniffle sniffle SNORT cough hack

Well this morning is starting out smashingly. My head feels like a buoy in a hurricane and the back of my soft palate is on fire! A hot shower cleared out all the gunk and I can breathe, but I still just feel like crud. I wish there wasn’t so much going on at work. Then I might feel better about staying home. But duty calls and I’m off.

Liam’s first star

Liam (now 2) just called for Daddy to come see his star. Imagine my surprise to find a perfectly drawn star on his MagnaDoodle. (Okay, not perfect, per se, but perfect to Daddy.) He had been playing alone In his room and came up with this all on his own. I didn’t even know he knew this shape! Totally amazed.

Got the new WordPress app installed on my iPhone. Posting this from the gym. The wife and I tied a few on at a wedding reception last night so I’m punishing myself with an extra run on the elliptical. Ooh, that machine is evil!
Also check out the new do. Missy’s doing entirely but I could get used to it.
Also, Dr. Dunn at the Apple… surreal. But it was good times seeing Clarence Dobbins again. Plus, my wife can DANCE!
