Google announced today (a day early, thanks to unpredictable delivery routes) the release tomorrow of their new web browser, Chrome. Apparently, like many of the rest of us, Google developers have become increasingly discontented with the performance and reliability in mainstream internet browsers. According to the material they released, they’ve redesigned the browser application from the ground up, including sub-processes and javascript virtual machines. As they put it, the key to better browsing was compartmentalizing tabs into individual “sandboxes,” each with independent memory, processor, and security allocations. Tres nerdy, but extremely intriguing. I, for one, shall be cruising the web with a little bit more chrome starting tomorrow. Hmm, let’s hope they don’t keep that name for too long.
